Climbing in the Oisans region
The Oisans is a vast high mountain area that spreads from
Gavet (390m) to the summit of the Ecrins (4102m). It's rocky
structure supports a third of all the glaciers in French
Alps. Composed largely of white quartz and black schist,
golden limestone and pink granite the area is a paradise for
mountaineers.
To the west of Bourg d'Oisans you will find the
Belledonne and Taillefer ranges which protect the area from
precipitation and to the east the Meije and the Ecrins
itself.
Whether you are an experienced climber or mountaineer, or
a beginner the area has perfect climb for you.
You will find Via Ferrata routes, Canyoning, Bouldering,
and Climbing crags, as well as long routes (grande voie) and
mountaineering (alpinisme). The area is also known for its
waterfall ice climbing, and the newer (dryer) dry tooling.
You can find everything you need, for purchase or hire,
